It is a very breezy rug, and has been tested in over 40 degrees without raising sweat. Extremely hard wearing, it is made with a knitlock construction which gives it excellent ripstop properties and prevents unravelling. Extensively paddock tested both on our own horses as well as our clients'
horses.

Aquaproof Summer Breeze  ** WATERPROOF
At last, a breathable, truly WATERPROOF summer rug fabric! The original Summer Breeze with a clear waterproof coating. Features darts, gussets, shoulder lining and tail bag fittiing. A durable, tough general summer paddock rug which will keep them dry but won't make them sweat. Has performed very well in paddock trials last summers, our test rugs are still going strong.

Note: This rug IS  washable IN COLD WATER ONLY and this should only be done sparingly. Use a very gentle detergent such as a wool mix, and hand washing is recommended over machine washing.
Also: If a non-waterproof neck rug (ie, cotton, loomstate etc), is used with an Aquaproof rug, IT WILL LEAK. This is because water will transpose through the Aquaproof by the wet fabric sitting on top. This will happen with any waterproof canvas fabric. The solution is to use an Aquaproof neck rug with your rug, or choose a combi.

Things to Consider when choosing Summer Rugs
1.How hot does your horse get?
The weight and type of material you choose, will firstly depend on whether your horse sweats or not under his/her summer rugs. Some horses can stand an unlined canvas without sweating, some horses will sweat without any rugs at all. On a general scale, the hottest horses fare best in the shadecloth rug.

2.How hard is your horse on rugs?
How your horse treats his/her rugs is a big factor in choosing fabrics for durability, especially in summer when lighter weight fabrics are generally required.

3.What level of UV coat protection do you need?
Generally, anyone who competes during summer, will require some level of UV protection for their horse's coat, to prevent sun bleaching and burning and the resulting loss of bloom and shine to the coat.

4.Are insects a concern?
In northern states in Australia, Queensland Itch is becoming more prevalent. In oter states, mosquitos, flies, botfilies, sandflies etc, are all annoying for our horses, and many of these pose a health threat.

5.Will rugs need to be washed frequently?
Not all summer rugs are able to be washed frequently, and some are more easily washed than others. Generally speaking, the lighter the fabric weight, the easier the rug is to wash.

6.Does the rug have to be waterproof?
Most cotton and cotton blend summer rugs are not waterproof, however there is one summer fabric (Aquaproof), which is truly waterproof, while the shadecloth rug provides a high level of water resistance despite its open weave, due to its high airflow  properties which enable the horse to dry off very quickly.

All of these factors need to be considered to make a successful summer rug purchase. Many of you will know exactly what you need, others may need a bit of careful thought as to what would be most suitable. For example, a horse that doesn't get too hot, and is easy on its rugs (ie, no rubbing on fences/trees etc, no other horses biting rugs), would be satisfactory in the Breeze Ripstop rug.

On the other hand, a horse which sweats when the temperature reaches 25 degrees, and is perhaps harder on its rugs, would do very well with a shadecloth rug. If total UV protection is required, then a Hood Combi could be the solution.

For a situation where the horse needs to be kept dry at all times, but gets hot under unlined canvas (or synthetic rugs), would be ideally suited to the Aquaproof.

So there are lots of things to consider, and lots of choices from any conclusions drawn about any particular horse. If you have any specific enquiries, please don't hesitate to contact us either by phone or email, we will do our best to help you make the right choice for your summer rugs.
